Temporary Paid Vacancy – BARK – Kennels

BARK currently have a temporary vacancy at our kennels for a kennel assistant for an initial period of 12 weeks, there is a possibility this may be extended.  A minimum of 64 hours in a 4 week period, National Minimum Wage applies.  Flexibility to work additional hours depending on the needs of the kennels.  Normal hours include a variety of shifts between 8am and 8pm and will include weekends as well as weekdays, bank holidays, Christmas and New Year. Shifts vary between 8am – 12pm, 8am – 1pm, 8am to 2pm, 2pm to 8 pm, 4pm – 8pm & 6pm – 8pm. Half day work trials will take place the w/c 16th September To start, subject to satisfactory references and agreement October 2024.

Please note kennel work is physically demanding, the hours are not very sociable and flexibility is essential. The trading estate is not adequately serviced by public transport in order to make this position viable for anyone needing to use it to get to work. All applicants must be over 21.

Job Title: Kennel Assistant

Reports to: Kennel Manager

Basic Function:

While on duty, throughout your contracted hours, you are to maintain the kennel facility to ensure the well being and security of the animals.

Primary Responsibilities:

On a daily basis carry out the following activities as a minimum

Ø Provide care, exercise, feed, water, grooming and well being of any animals at the BARK kennels

Ø Follow instructions on correct quantity and type of food

Ø Ensure correct dispensing of any medication

Ø Identify possibility of abnormal behaviour/illness/injury/ parasite infestation and inform the kennel manager

Ø Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of all animal areas, walkways and exercise areas. Clean and disinfect all units as schedule.

Ø Ensure bedding is clean and dry

Ø Maintain accurate records

Ø Exercise the dogs either in the paddocks or off premises removing all excrement and keeping all areas clean

Ø General Housekeeping as appropriate

Ø On completion of your primary tasks carry out routine tasks the next shift would normally do. In this way we may get ahead of the routine jobs and attend to those tasks we would find difficulty in fitting in to our normal activities.

Ø Attend training on Health and Safety and fire training

Secondary activities

• Attend update training on animal welfare as required

• Attend staff meetings as required

• Respond to any queries regarding the kennels and rehoming

• Complete any documentation as necessary

• Ensure the security of the building and compound at all times

• Any other duties required to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the kennel facility.

• To take reasonable care for your own and others safety and comply with health and safety policies.
